Ceratophyllum Demersum, more commonly known as Hornwort or Coontail, is a favorite amongst a variety of aquarium keepers. This aquatic plant species features fluffy foliage that produces a feathery appearance when used in the aquarium. Hornwort is more commonly seen in breeding projects as the plant is a free-floating species and provides valuable refuge for shrimplets and small fry. However, it can be planted like other aquatic stem plants and will certainly provide unique texture and bright color to the nature aquarium. Ceratophyllum Demersum is a prolific grower, so regular maintenance will be necessary to ensure the desired look is maintained.
Care is simple - another reason this plant is loved by both breeders and beginner hobbyists alike. It is a fairly tolerant species and will adapt to a wide range of aquarium conditions. We recommend low to medium lighting and consistent aquarium maintenance habits as a baseline.
